RESUMO

The reaction of D-glucose oxidase (GOx) with D- and L-glucose was investigated using confocal fluorescence microscopy and Hall voltage measurements, after the enzyme was adsorbed as a monolayer. By adsorbing the enzyme on a ferromagnetic substrate, we verified that the reaction is spin dependent. This conclusion was supported by monitoring the reaction when the enzyme is adsorbed on a Hall device that does not contain any magnetic elements. The spin dependence is consistent with the chiral-induced spin selectivity (CISS) effect; it can be explained by the improved fidelity of the electron transfer process through the chiral enzyme due to the coupling of the linear momentum of the electrons and their spin. Since the reaction studied often serve as a model system for enzymatic activity, the results may suggest the general importance of the spin-dependent electron transfer in bio-chemical processes.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to understand the basic situation of adults with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) in Meigu County, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture. The information of patients who had been on ART for more than 6 months, the effect of ART, the possible reasons for ART failure, knowledge of drug resistance among patients with ART failure and the possible reasons for the emergence of drug resistance were analyzed. METHODS: A total of 2753 people living with HIV (PLWH) were collected for HIV-1 RNA virus nucleic acid testing. Plasma specimens with HIV-1 RNA ≥ 1000 copies/mL were sent to the laboratory for nucleic acid extraction, PCR, electrophoresis and sequencing, and the sequencing results were submitted to the HIV drug resistance database of Stanford University for subtyping to determine the drug resistance mutation sites and drug sensitivity levels. RESULTS: A total of 2753 patients were enrolled in this study. Antiviral therapy failed in 288 patients and was successfully amplified in 245, of which 111 had resistance genes. The resistance rate to failure of viral suppression was 45.3% (111/245). The highest rates of resistance to NNRTIs were found for efavirenz (EFV) and nevirapine (NVP) (42.9%), and the highest rates of resistance to NRTIs were found for 3TC and emtricitabine (FTC) (15.9%). The most common NNRTI resistance mutation site was K103N (20.8%), followed by V179D (9.4%) and V106M (7.8%); the most common NRTI resistance mutation site was M184V/I/MV (14.3%), followed by K65R (6.9%); three PI-associated resistance mutation sites were identified. The subtype of the resistant strain was CRF07-BC in almost all patients (98.9%). CONCLUSIONS: Compared with the previous low ART efficacy in the county, this study showed that the overall virological failure (VF) resistance rate in the county is still low, dominated by resistance to EFV, NVP, 3TC, FTC, and didanosine (DDI). Due to economic constraints, the core regimen is still 3TC + TDF, but before initiating ART, testing for HIV-1 subtypes and resistance should be conducted to avoid resistance that can lead to VF, especially for patients with high risk factors for resistance as shown by epidemiologic investigations.

RESUMO

We analyze from a theoretical perspective recent experiments where chiral discrimination in biological systems was established using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). Even though intermolecular forces involved in AFM measurements have different origins, i.e., electrostatic, bonding, exchange, and multipole interactions, the key molecular forces involved in enantiospecific biorecognition are electronic spin exchange and van der Waals (vdW) dispersion forces, which are sensitive to spin-orbit interaction (SOI) and space-inversion symmetry breaking in chiral molecules. The vdW contribution to chiral discrimination emerges from the inclusion of SOI and spin fluctuations due to the chiral-induced selectivity effect, a result we have recently demonstrated theoretically. Considering these two enantiospecific contributions, we show that the AFM results regarding chiral recognition can be understood in terms of a simple physical model that describes the different adhesion forces associated with different electron spin polarization generated in the (DD), (LL), and (DL) enantiomeric pairs, as arising from the spin part of the exchange and vdW contributions. The model can successfully produce physically reasonable parameters accounting for the vdW and exchange interaction strength, accounting for the chiral discrimination effect. This fact has profound implications in biorecognition where the relevant intermolecular interactions in the intermediate-distance regime are clearly connected to vdW forces.

RESUMO

The chirality-induced spin selectivity (CISS) effect allows thin-film layers of chiral conjugated molecules to function as spin filters at ambient temperature. Through solvent-modulated dropcasting of chiral l- and d-perylene diimide (PDI) monomeric building blocks, two types of aggregate morphologies, nanofibers and nanodonuts, may be realized. Spin-diode behavior is evidenced in the nanodonut structures. Stacked PDI units, which form the conjugated core of these nanostructures, dominate the nanodonut-Au electrode contact; in contrast, the AFM tip contacts largely the high-resistance solubilizing alkyl chains of the chiral monomers that form these nanodonuts. Current-voltage responses of the nanodonuts, measured by magnetic conductive AFM (mC-AFM), demonstrate substantial spin polarizations as well as spin current rectification ratios (>10) that exceed the magnitudes of those determined to date for other chiral nanoscale systems. These results underscore the potential for chiral nanostructures, featuring asymmetric molecular junctions, to enable CISS-based nanoscale spin current rectifiers.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate vaccine effectiveness (VE) of a live oral pentavalent rotavirus vaccine (RotaTeq, RV5) among young children in Shanghai, China, via a test-negative design study. STUDY DESIGN: We consecutively recruited children visiting a tertiary children's hospital for acute diarrhea from November 2021 to February 2022. Information on clinical data and rotavirus vaccination was collected. Fresh fecal samples were obtained for rotavirus detection and genotyping. To evaluate VE of RV5 against rotavirus gastroenteritis among young children, unconditional logistic regression models were conducted to compare ORs for vaccination between rotavirus-positive cases and test-negative controls. RESULTS: A total of 390 eligible children with acute diarrhea were enrolled, including 45 (11.54%) rotavirus-positive cases and 345 (88.46%) test-negative controls. After excluding 4 cases (8.89%) and 55 controls (15.94%) who had received the Lanzhou lamb rotavirus vaccine, 41 cases (12.39%) and 290 controls (87.61%) were included for the evaluation of RV5 VE. After adjustment for potential confounders, the 3-dose RV5 vaccination showed 85% (95% CI, 50%-95%) VE against mild to moderate rotavirus gastroenteritis among children aged 14 weeks to ≤4 years and 97% (95% CI, 83%-100%) VE among children aged 14 weeks to ≤2 years with genotypes G8P8, G9P8, and G2P4 represented 78.95%, 18.42%, and 2.63% of circulation strains, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: A 3-dose vaccination of RV5 is highly protective against rotavirus gastroenteritis among young children in Shanghai. The G8P8 genotype prevailled in Shanghai after RV5 introduction.

RESUMO

Herein we describe the self-assembly of an achiral molecule into macroscopic helicity as well as the emergent chiral-selective spin-filtering effect. It was found that a benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxamide (BTA) motif with an aminopyridine group in each arm could coordinate with AgI and self-assemble into nanospheres. Upon sonication, symmetry breaking occurred and the nanospheres transferred into helical nanofibers with strong CD signals. Although the sign of the CD signals appeared randomly, it could be controlled by using the as-made chiral assemblies as a seed. Furthermore, it was found that the charge transport of the helical nanofibers was highly selective with a spin-polarization transport of up to 45 %, although the chiral nanofibers are composed exclusively from achiral building blocks. This work demonstrates symmetry breaking under sonication and the chiral-selective spin-filtering effect.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to understand the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of pediatric SARS-CoV-2 infection during the early stage of Omicron variant outbreak in Shanghai. METHODS: This study included local COVID-19 cases <18 years in Shanghai referred to the exclusively designated hospital from March 7 to March 31, 2022. Clinical data, epidemiological exposure, and COVID-19 vaccination status were collected. Relative risks (RRs) were calculated to assess the effect of vaccination on symptomatic infection and febrile disease. RESULTS: A total of 376 pediatric cases of COVID-19 (median age: 6.0 ± 4.2 years) were referred to the designated hospital, including 257 (68.4%) symptomatic cases and 119 (31.6%) asymptomatic cases. Of the 307 (81.6%) children ≥3 years eligible for COVID-19 vaccination, 110 (35.8%) received two doses of vaccines. The median interval between the completion of two-dose vaccination and infection was 3.5 (interquartile range [IQR]: 3, 4.5) months. Compared with no vaccination, two-dose COVID-19 vaccination reduced the risks of symptomatic infection and febrile disease by 35% (RR 0.65, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.53-0.79) and 33% (RR 0.64, 95% CI: 0.51-0.81) among confirmed cases. Eighty-four percent of symptomatic cases had fever (mean duration: 1.7 ± 1.0.8 days), 40.5% had cough, and 16.4% had transient leukopenia. Three hundred and seven (81.6%) had an epidemiological exposure in household (69.1%), school (21.8%), and residential area (8.8%). CONCLUSION: The surge of pediatric COVID-19 cases and multiple transmission model reflect wide dissemination of Omicron variant in the community. Asymptomatic infection is common among Omicron-infected children. COVID-19 vaccination can offer some protection against symptomatic infection and febrile disease.

RESUMO

We report on the synthesis and self-assembly of 2,15- and 4,13-disubstituted carbo[6]helicenes 1 and 2 bearing 3,4,5-tridodecyloxybenzamide groups. The self-assembly of these [6]helicenes is strongly influenced by the substitution pattern in the helicene core that affects the mutual orientation of the monomeric units in the aggregated form. Thus, the 2,15-substituted derivative 1 undergoes an isodesmic supramolecular polymerization forming globular nanoparticles that maintain circularly polarized light (CPL) with glum values as high as 2 × 10-2. Unlike carbo[6]helicene 1, the 4,13-substituted derivative 2 follows a cooperative mechanism generating helical one-dimensional fibers. As a result of this helical organization, [6]helicene 2 exhibits a unique modification in its ECD spectral pattern showing sign inversion at low energy, accompanied by a sign change of the CPL with glum values of 1.2 × 10-3, thus unveiling an example of CPL inversion upon supramolecular polymerization. These helical supramolecular structures with high chiroptical activity, when deposited on conductive surfaces, revealed highly efficient electron-spin filtering abilities, with electron spin polarizations up to 80% for 1 and 60% for 2, as measured by magnetic conducting atomic force microscopy.

RESUMO

Background: Routine vaccination of infants for protecting against hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and its serious consequences, including hepatocellular cancer (HCC), has been carried out in Shanghai, China, since 1986. We therefore have examined the trend of HBV infection and HCC incidences before and after HBV vaccination over decades to assess the potential influences of the Shanghai HBV vaccination program. Methods: Data on incidences of HBV infection and HCC were collected from the Shanghai Cancer Registry and the Shanghai HBV vaccination follow-up study. Joint-point regression and the Bayesian age-period-cohort statistical analysis methods were used. Results: The incidences of HBV infection dramatically declined from 23.09 and 1.13 per 100,000 for males and females in 2000 to 3.24 (-85.97%) and 0.22 (-80.53%) per 100,000 in 2014, respectively. Sero-epidemiological data from the sampling surveys during 20 years of follow-up showed that less than 1% of people undergoing HBV vaccination have a positive serum HBsAg. Consistently, the annual adjusted standardization rates (ASR) of HCC steadily fell from 33.38 and 11.65 per 100,000 for males and females in 1973 to 17.34 (-49.2%) and 5.60 (-51.9%) per 100,000 in 2014, respectively. The annual percentage change in overall HCC incidences is about -2%. HCC incidences in males at younger age groups (age <50 years old), particularly in those with age <34 groups, showed an accelerating decrease over time, whereas HCC incidences significantly declined in the female population across all age groups except for those under 19 years of age. The results supported that the universal HBV vaccination in newborns is easy to implement with high coverages and is effective for preventing both HBV infection and HCC in populations.

RESUMO

A critical spintronics challenge is to develop molecular wires that render efficiently spin-polarized currents. Interplanar torsional twisting, driven by chiral binucleating ligands in highly conjugated molecular wires, gives rise to large near-infrared rotational strengths. The large scalar product of the electric and magnetic dipole transition moments ([Formula: see text]), which are evident in the low-energy absorptive manifolds of these wires, makes possible enhanced chirality-induced spin selectivity-derived spin polarization. Magnetic-conductive atomic force microscopy experiments and spin-Hall devices demonstrate that these designs point the way to achieve high spin selectivity and large-magnitude spin currents in chiral materials.

RESUMO

The impacts of the influent type in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) on the distribution patterns of the microbial community and functional characteristics were investigated. The obtained results indicated that the influent types exhibited evident influences on the microbial distribution patterns. The diversity and richness of functional microbes in HI-WWTP (with a ratio of >30% industrial wastewater in influents) were evidently decreased compared with those in HM- (with 70-90% municipal wastewater in influents) and M-WWTPs (with >90% municipal wastewater in influents). The core functional bacteria included denitrifiers, anaerobic fermentation bacteria (AFB), organic degrading bacteria (ODB), phosphorus accumulating organisms (PAO) and nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB), but they exhibited distinct abundances in WWTPs receiving different categories of wastewater. The denitrifiers in HI-WWTPs was 15.6-32.5% higher than that in other WWTPs, while PAOs had higher abundances in M - and HI-WWTPs (28.9% and 39.3%, respectively) compared with HM-WWTPs. Clear co-occurrence relationships were found among the main functional microbes with similar metabolic characteristics. Moreover, information on functional genes related to carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus metabolism, which is closely associated with pollutant removal efficiency, was obtained. M-WWTPs had higher abundances of genetic expressions for organic matters degradation (i.e. amino acid (10.42%) and carbohydrate (9.86%) metabolisms). Nar, Nir and Nor showed lowest abundances in HM-WWTPs, causing the low nitrogen removal (63.04-65.79%). However, influent type had little effect on genetic expression related with phosphorus removal. This work provided new insights into the interrelationship among bacterial co-occurrence, microbial activity and pollutant removal in WWTPs with different influent types.

RESUMO

It is established that electron transmission through chiral molecules depends on the electron's spin. This phenomenon, termed the chiral-induced spin selectivity (CISS), effect has been observed in chiral molecules, supramolecular structures, polymers, and metal-organic films. Which spin is preferred in the transmission depends on the handedness of the system and the tunneling direction of the electrons. Molecular motors based on overcrowded alkenes show multiple inversions of helical chirality under light irradiation and thermal relaxation. The authors found here multistate switching of spin selectivity in electron transfer through first generation molecular motors based on the four accessible distinct helical configurations, measured by magnetic-conductive atomic force microscopy. It is shown that the helical state dictates the molecular organization on the surface. The efficient spin polarization observed in the photostationary state of the right-handed motor coupled with the modulation of spin selectivity through the controlled sequence of helical states, opens opportunities to tune spin selectivity on-demand with high spatio-temporal precision. An energetic analysis correlates the spin injection barrier with the extent of spin polarization.

RESUMO

Squaraine dyes are well known for their strong absorption in the visible regime. Reports on chiral squaraine dyes are, however, scarce. To address this gap, we here report two novel chiral squaraine dyes and their achiral counterparts. The presented dyes are aggregated in solution and in thin films. A detailed chiroptical study shows that thin films formed by co-assembling the chiral dye with its achiral counterpart exhibit exceptional photophysical properties. The circular dichroism (CD) of the co-assembled structures reaches a maximum when just 25 % of the chiral dye are present in the mixture. The solid structures with the highest relative CD effect are achieved when the chiral dye is used solely as a director, rather than the structural component. The chiroptical data are further supported by selected spin-filtering measurements using mc-AFM. These findings provide a promising platform for investigating the relationship between the dissymmetry of a supramolecular structure and emerging material properties rather than a comparison between a chiral molecular structure and an achiral counterpart.

RESUMO

To understand the epidemiological and clinical features of the symptomatic and asymptomatic pediatric cases of COVID-19, we carried out a prospective study in Shanghai during the period of January 19 to April 30, 2020. A total of 49 children (mean age 11.5 ± 5.12 years) confirmed with SARS-CoV-2 infection were enrolled in the study, including 11 (22.4%) domestic cases and 38 (77.6%) imported cases. Nine (81.8%) local cases and 12 (31.6%) imported cases had a definitive epidemiological exposure. Twenty-eight (57.1%) were symptomatic and 21 (42.9%) were asymptomatic. Neither asymptomatic nor symptomatic cases progressed to severe diseases. The mean duration of viral shedding for SARS-CoV-2 in upper respiratory tract was 14.1 ± 6.4 days in asymptomatic cases and 14.8 ± 8.4 days in symptomatic cases (P > 0.05). Forty-five (91.8%) cases had viral RNA detected in stool. The mean duration of viral shedding in stool was 28.1 ± 13.3 days in asymptomatic cases and 30.8 ± 18.6 days in symptomatic participants (P > 0.05). Children < 7 years shed viral RNA in stool for a longer duration than school-aged children (P < 0.05). Forty-three (87.8%) cases had seropositivity for antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 within 1-3 weeks after confirmation with infection. In conclusion, asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection may be common in children in the community during the COVID-19 pandemic wave. Asymptomatic cases shed viral RNA in a similar pattern as symptomatic cases do. It is of particular concern that asymptomatic individuals are potentially seed transmission of SARS-CoV-2 and pose a challenge to disease control.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: A recent cluster of pneumonia cases in China was caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). We report the screening and diagnosis of corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in our hospital. METHODS: Developed a procedure for the identification of children cases with COVID-19 in outpatient and emergency department of our hospital, then we observed how this process works. RESULTS: (I) There were 56 cases considered suspected cases, and 10 cases were confirmed as COVID-19. (II) Of the 10 confirmed COVID-19 cases admitted in our hospital, 5 were males and 5 were females, aged from 7 months to 11 years, the average age is 6.0±4.2 years, 6 cases were mild pneumonia, the others were upper respiratory tract infection. (III) We followed up 68 patients in isolation at home until symptoms disappeared. Non were missed in the patient's first visit. The sensitivity of this method is 100% and the specificity is 71.3%. CONCLUSIONS: Our screening process works well, and it is also necessary to establish a screening network in the hospital.

RESUMO

Studying the self-assembly behavior of DNA origami allows a better understanding of molecular assembly characteristics at the nanoscale. Presently, the mechanisms governing growth and dynamics of DNA origami assembly are still not very clear and there is a lack of direct visualization of the growth processes on the long single-strand scaffold. Here, we investigate the kinetics, especially the real-time seeding growth process of six special designs of 2D DNA origami at room temperature (RT) without the assistance of denaturing chemicals. The prealignment of single-strand long scaffold and logical seeding growth behaviors are revealed during the growth process at RT. Furthermore, we studied the thermal stability of the DNA nanostructures under limited structural defects. Revealed characteristics of seeding growth can be used to build large and complex DNA nanodevices capable of performing logical operations with nanometer precision.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The guidelines addressed the evidence-based indications for the management of children with acute infectious diarrhea in Chinese pediatric population. DATA SOURCES: The experts group of evidence development put forward clinical problems, collects evidence, forms preliminary recommendations, and then uses open-ended discussions to form recommendations. The literature review was done for developing this guideline in databases including PubMed, Cochrane, EMBASE, China Biomedical Database, and Chinese Journal Full-text Database up to June 2013. Search the topic "acute diarrhea" or "enteritis" and "adolescent" or "child" or "Pediatric patient" or "Baby" or "Infant". RESULTS: For the treatment of mild, moderate dehydration, hypotonic oral rehydration solutions (ORS) are strongly recommended. Intravenous (IV) rehydration is recommended for severe dehydration, with a mixture of alkali-containing dextrose sodium solution. Nasogastric feeding tube rehydration is used for children with severe dehydration without IV infusion conditions with ORS solution. Regular feeding should resume as soon as possible after oral rehydration or IV rehydration. The lactose-free diet can shorten the diarrhea duration. Zinc supplements are recommended in children with acute infectious diarrhea. Saccharomyces boulardii and Lactobacillus Rhamnus are recommended to be used in acute watery diarrhea. Saccharomyces boulardii is recommended in children with antibiotic-associated diarrhea as well. Montmorillonite and Racecadotril (acetorphan) can improve the symptoms of diarrhea or shorten the course of acute watery diarrhea. Antibiotics are recommended with dysenteric-like diarrhea, suspected cholera with severe dehydration, immunodeficiency, and premature delivery children with chronic underlying disease; otherwise, antibiotics are not recommended. CONCLUSION: The principles of the most controversial treatments with of acute infectious disease are reaching to a consensus in China.

RESUMO

Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is mainly epidemic in China and Southeast Asian countries. A novel enterovirus 71 vaccine has been available in China for preventing severe HFMD since 2016. Knowledge of the dynamic epidemiology of HFMD in different regions is necessary for appropriate intervention strategies. This study focused on the citywide surveillance data on the epidemiology and etiology of HFMD in Shanghai during 2014-2016. In these 3 years, the total numbers of reported HFMD cases were 65,018, 39,702, and 57,548, respectively; the numbers of severe cases (case-severity ratios) were 248 (0.38%), 35 (0.09%), and 59 (0.10%), respectively. Children <6 years old accounted for 86.65% to 89.34% of HFMD cases and 91.53 to 97.14% of severe cases. EV-A71 caused all three fatal cases. In severe cases, the detection rate of EV-A71 was 77.82% in 2014, 100% in 2015 and 98.31% in 2016. In uncomplicated inpatient cases, the detection rates of EV-A71, CV-A16, CV-A6, and CV-A10 were, respectively, 43.40, 22.10, 30.73, and 1.89% in 2014; 28.52, 6.46, 53.61, and 7.98% in 2015; and 31.79, 14.15, 44.55, and 4.64% in 2016. In mild community cases, the detection rates of EV-A71, CV-A16, CV-A6, and CV-A10 were, respectively, 25.78, 41.64, 22.93, and 1.78% in 2014; 17.41, 21.23, 50.99, and 3.15% in 2015; and 18.92, 27.84, 45.11, and 1.64% in 2016. Among the cluster outbreaks, the most common pathogen was CV-A16 in 2014 (50.69%) and 2015 (38.10%) and CV-A6 in 2016 (36.30%). These findings show that HFMD outbreaks remained at a high level in Shanghai during 2014-2016. CV-A6 was emerging as the most common pathogen causing HFMD.

RESUMO

Single-nucleotide polymorphisms in the human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-DQB1 gene are associated with chronic inflammatory and immunological diseases. Host genetic factors have a key role in the development of chronic hepatitis B (CHB). The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between the HLA-DQB1 polymorphisms and the susceptibility to CHB. PubMed, Embase, CNKI and Wanfang databases were searched for the studies that reported the association of the HLA-DQB1 polymorphisms with CHB between January 1, 1966 and July 30, 2015. HLA-DQB1 polymorphism-specific odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were pooled and calculated in the fixed effects model using the Mantel-Haenszel method. Q-test and I2 test were performed to examine the heterogeneity. Begg's funnel test and Egger's test were conducted to assess publication bias. All the statistical tests were two-tailed. Subsequent to searching the databases and screening according to the inclusion criteria, 7 case-control studies were available in the present meta-analysis, including 815 CHB patients and 731 control subjects for the HLA-DQB1 polymorphisms. In conclusion, the statistically significant pooled OR of the HLA-DQB1 polymorphisms were obtained for the HLA-DQB1 loci (*0201, case vs. CONTROL: I2=36.5%; P-value of heterogeneity=0.15; OR, 1.29; 95% CI, 1.02-1.64; P=0.0301; *0301, case vs. CONTROL: I2=0%; P-value of heterogeneity=0.899; OR, 1.37; 95% CI, 1.12-1.69; P=0.002; *0502, case vs. CONTROL: I2=24.9%; P-value of heterogeneity=0.239; OR, 1.50; 95% CI, 1.02-2.20; P=0.04), which were associated with an increased risk of CHB. Similar significant results were observed and acquired in the following HLA-DQB1 loci (*0303, case vs. CONTROL: I2=0%; P-value of heterogeneity=0.986; OR, 0.77; 95% CI, 0.62-0.95; P=0.017; *0604, case vs. CONTROL: I2=0%; P-value of heterogeneity=0.594; OR, 0.38; 95% CI, 0.20-0.74; P=0.003), which were associated with a decreased risk of CHB. No significant association was observed for the other HLA-DQB1 family loci. The present meta-analysis demonstrated that the HLA-DQB1 loci (*0201, *0301 and *0502) polymorphisms were significantly associated with an increased risk of CHB. However, HLA-DQB1 loci polymorphisms (*0303 and *0604) were associated with a decreased risk of CHB. These results support the hypothesis that polymorphisms of the HLA-DQB1 allele families may affect the susceptibility or resistance to CHB.
